Essential swimming kit
- Well-fitting swimsuit or swimming shorts (not board shorts — they create drag)
- Swim cap (required at most pools — silicone caps are more comfortable for children)
- Goggles (anti-fog, soft-edged — try them at home first)
- Towel (quick-dry microfibre towels are ideal)
- Flip-flops / pool shoes for the pool deck
- Water bottle and a light snack for after
- Bag for wet kit
For young beginners (ages 3–6)
Children aged 3–6 learning water confidence may wear swimming nappies (pull-up style) if not yet toilet trained — check your academy's policy. Some parents bring a small float toy for the child to hold before entering the pool area.
After the lesson
Bring a warm change of clothes, especially in cooler months or for early morning sessions. Have a dry bag ready for the wet costume and towel. Younger children benefit from a small snack immediately after — swimming burns energy quickly.
