What to Bring to Your Child's First Football Class

A little preparation before the first session makes the whole experience smoother for your child and for you.

Essential kit

  • Football boots or trainers (confirm with the academy whether boots or trainers are needed for the surface)
  • Shin guards — mandatory in most academies from age 6
  • Sports socks (long enough to cover shin guards)
  • Shorts and a breathable sports top
  • Academy kit if provided (confirm whether to bring on Day 1)
  • Water bottle — minimum 500ml, preferably 750ml or 1L in summer months

In the GCC summer months

If sessions are outdoors in warm weather, bring extra water (minimum 1L), a sun hat for before/after the session, sunscreen, and a light change of clothes for after. Many parents keep a cool bag with water and a light snack.

What the academy usually provides

Most academies provide footballs, cones, and other training equipment. Bibs are typically provided for match-play sections. Confirm with your specific academy before the first session.

Before the session

Arrive 10 minutes early on the first day to allow your child to meet the coach and settle in. Fill in any registration or medical forms in advance if possible.
